B. A. degree in Communications, Communication Technology/Interface Design focus; Minor in Studio Art, Design focus.

Coursework: mass communication psychologies, traditional art mediums, economics and marketing, journalism, media effects and policy, product and interface design, research methods, technology and computer science, film history and production, and art history.

  • Studied Design under Matt Kahn, whose acclaimed program graduated innovative founders of companies such as Google, Yahoo, and IDEO.
  • Studied Journalism under Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Dale Maharidge.

Stanford in Paris – Paris, France. 2001
Spent a semester in Paris and the European School of commerce developing French language proficiency, Art history background, and International commerce perspective.

EXPERIENCE
Co-Owner/Operator – Cachet Studios Inc., Tempe, AZ. 1999 - Present
The partner and main operator of a private Creative Development team that handles a broad range of services all targeting the maturation and creative development of each client while providing tangible services and products, e-commerce, consulting, etc.

  • Professional Fine Artist – Have provided representation for several artists as well as self. Created environmentally integrated pieces for commission and exhibition. Semi-abstract portraiture, murals, fantasy special effect prototype sculpture, “Deconstructive Advertising” series in color photography, etc. Exhibits and shows held in Washington DC, San Francisco and Los Angeles, CA, and Phoenix, AZ. Pieces currently sold at the Biltmore Fashion Park and in permanent collection at Stanford University.

    Fantasy Special Effect Sculptures (1999-current): Figures created by hand from a variety of materials. All characters sculpted uniquely from sketches and blueprints, with flexible skeletons, layered muscles, skin materials, glass blown or hand painted eyes, all accessories and set materials created from scratch to create a unique setting and the ultimate illusion of artificial reality. Character Fish series, Fairy Series, Aristocrat Series Award winning designs in the same markets, such as IDEX, Santa Fe, and New York Toy Fair along with artists like Brian Froud, Gail Lackey, and Jim Henson Studios. Pieces exhibited in private collections, shows in San Francisco, Washington DC, Stanford, Phoenix, and Scottsdale. Pieces owned by Richard Simmons, Stevie Nicks, Brian Froud, Alex Stricker (photographer), Beverly Selby (political pundit), Steven Shore (music producer), and other high end collectors.

    Pieces/Designs currently under negotiations with a production team for a movie through Dreamworks Pictures and a series through Discovery Kids, titled “An American Fairytale”

    Deconstructive Advertising Series – Selling the Psychology of Advertising (2000-2005): A multi-part exhibition of fabricated advertisements that examines the nature of popular advertising campaigns and reverses the psychology of mass marketing. The very gimmicks used to manipulate the audience in subversive and pervasive ways are flipped to guide the viewers to question the moral implications of our daily bombardment of commercial persuasion. Series continued in Outlook Arizona and for publicity materials for the award winning play, “Faces on Milk Boxes”.

    Portraiture Series: Subconscious Symbolic Stylism: This series of portraits represents a developmental period for a style of artistic expression incorporating the psychology of symbolic recognition that allows the brain to understand and comprehend complex communication through layers of symbolism. Each piece beckons the viewer to find meaning in its structure so as to understand the artwork itself, the artist, and most importantly, the viewer’s self. Influences and artists comparisons from critical and academic review include Picasso, Miro, Chagall, contemporary graphic design, Jim Henson, Brian Froud, etc. Pieces held in permanent collection at Stanford University.

  • Author/IllustratorToby Frank: A Superhero is Born (2000), Hi’s Flowers (2006)
    Author of two novels, co-author of slapstick mystery thriller with Michele Selby. Secured representation for young adult fantasy epic and mystery thriller through the Seymour Agency but put project aside when my father lost his private business due to Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. Conceptualized, edited, wrote, illustrated, and sculpted characters and sets. Currently working on the mystical psychological drama, Hi’s Flowers, with paintings and illustrations for the cover and accompanying each chapter.
  • Production Consultant/Film ConsultantFaces on Milkboxes (2006), The Ghosting (2005), The Model (2006)
    Currently consulting on production, storyline editing, and publicity for a major award-winning theatre production, Face on Milkboxes, and the indie thriller flick, The Model. Writing screenplay adaptation and storyboards as an integral member of the production team for The Model. Creating and designing publicity materials for Faces on Milkboxes, including the playbill cover art, publicity and advertising, and a conjunctive art exhibition in the gallery space and throughout the set. Run dates in May, 2006, and Fall, 2006. Film shooting begins in March.

    Integral startup member of new lifestyle magazine serving Arizona. Wrote majority of articles, editorial, and features, managed and created portfolio of writers for website and magazine, edited and consulted all conceptualization, layout, and publication of articles, managed and hired photographers, models, artists, conducted interviews with national figures and celebrities, restaurant reviews, created databases and directories of galleries, theatres, shows, events, etc, managed and networked at major events and festivals, did layout, design, photography, and graphic design for majority of articles published. Maintained strict deadlines. Created graphics, sets and lighting for shoots and advertisements, as well as article and design features.
  • Layout EditorThe Legal Investigator Magazine, Phoenix, AZ, 2003 - current
    Updated and redesigned image and content for an International Legal journal. Lay out entire publication, as well as member news insert. Provide artistic direction, graphic design, and content development for covers, features, and advertisements. Coordinate printer and staff communication, etc.

    Handled entire layout of the monthly magazine with a regional circulation of aprox.15,000. Managed writer networking, artistic direction, writing of a plurality of the articles, interviewed celebrities and political figures for features, recruited new talent, organized advertiser and article library, coordinated advertiser and promotional events, etc.

  • Art Director/Chief PhotographerOdyssey Research Magazine, Palo Alto, CA, 2001 - 2002
    Created entire look and standardized formats for a startup magazine at Stanford University with International circulation. Designed Trademarks and logos, prescribed all artistic treatments, photographed/painted/digitally rendered ALL graphics for the magazine, managed and coordinated a team of writers, developed feature ideas, wrote articles and reviews, conducted interviews, etc.
